Keep South Australia Beautiful - Enjoy the Murray River for Years

Hello and welcome to the River Murray ECO Action campaign website.

This campaign has been established to help identify the impacts of natural and made-made features which result from high energy activities, and to establish the physical means of overcoming or avoiding associated damages.

Show support for sustaining the Murray & share the knowledge by joining together on Facebook.

Do your High energy activities on the river damage or sustain it?

If you need to drive close to the riverbank, do so at a speed which is safe and minimises boat wash.

When driving your boat above idle it is best to drive as close to the centre of the river as possible. as possible,

Power driven vessels operating on the River Murray have also been attributed to back erosion.

Turbulence, or boat wash, created as a power boat moves through the water can cause rapid and severe erosion leading to a range of environmental problems.

Fortunately these problems can better managed as outlined in this video.

High energy activities are those involving power driven vessels. Turbulence, or boat wash, created as a power boat moves through the water can cause rapid and severe erosion leading to a range of environmental problems. Boat wash and noise has also been known to cause disturbance to other users of the River Murray. Problems associated with boat wash are linked to vessels of all shapes and sizes; and to all vessel operators (recreational, commercial and government).

The River Murray ECO Action campaign is a joint initiative of the Boating Industry Association of South Australia (BIASA) and Keep South Australia Beautiful (KESAB). These two organisations are working closely with community and industry groups as well as State and Local Government to develop proposed “NO WASH” zones for sensitive areas along the River Murray. This campaign will be used to engage all users of the River Murray so everyone can have their day on the proposed “NO WASH” zones, before these areas become signposted along the River Murray for every vessel operator to adhere to.

By working together to manage the issues associated with high energy activities we can ensure environmental, economic and social sustainability for the region, and in particular, the River Murray.
